How do I check that whoever takes my garden waste is licensed?

The public register that tells you whether a waste carrier is registered.

In short

Look them up on the Environment Agency's public register of waste carriers, brokers and dealers. Anyone who carries waste away from your property as part of their business in England should be registered. Ask for their registration number and check it against the register before the waste leaves.

This is a job for our Site Clearance & Green Waste service.

Why it matters

Tree and garden waste is still waste once someone takes it away for you. If it ends up fly-tipped, the trail can lead back to where it came from, so it is worth knowing who is taking it and that they are registered to do so.

How to check

  1. Ask for the carrier's registration number.
  2. Search the Environment Agency's public register of waste carriers, brokers and dealers.
  3. Check the name and address match the business you are dealing with.
